52 Project Week 2- The Adventures of Flat Stanley

Year 2, Week 2 of the project formerly known as my 365 Day Photo Journey is the continuing adventures of Flat Stanley! When I was a kid, the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown was my favorite book! It’s the tale of a young boy named Stanley who was literally flattened when his bulletin board fell off the wall next to his bed. Ouch! At first Stanley was distraught in this new flattened state, but eventually he came to realize how fun it was to now be able to do all sorts of amazing things because he was flat! He could fly like a kite and get into places that normal “round” children could not.

My friend Sharon has a son named Brady who also loves Flat Stanley. And as part of a school project, Brady’s teacher recently sent Stanley to me for a few days of fun here in California. So I first brought him along with my Dad and brother on our big adventure to the China Ranch near Death Valley (MANY more pics to come!), where we stayed in an actual tipi and had campfires! Then I took him to the beach here in San Diego, where he played in the sand and surfed! Finally, we stopped off for a quick visit to Old Town. Here are a few of my favorite photos of Stanley from our time together.

The little flat guy makes an ideal model!
You are not alone in your interest to take pictures of Flat Stanley. The Flat Stanley Project allows people to upload photos and the free iPhone app lets people digitally insert flat characters into existing pictures. An idea I’ve toyed with is to set a specific date and challenge photographers to submit their Flat Stanley photos. I’ll bet we’d end up with some amazing shots.
Thank you for supporting the Flat Stanley Project.

Hi Dale! Thanks for the comment and the info about your project. I wasn’t aware of the work you all are doing, so that’s great to know! The iPhone app is an excellent idea. I’ll make sure to forward the info to my friend who sent her son’s Stanley and she can share that with his teacher and classmates.

      Continued success!

Hey Greg. I just wanted to stop in and congratulate you on making it through the 365 project. (Sorry I missed the actual post – was disconnected and away.) That is an accomplishment. Inspiring! Good job.
